Lovely connected moment of the week: my Kiwi friend popped over for a cuppa with her visiting mum. We sat around the table talking about things in that comforting understanding that can only come from a shared culture. Her toddler was getting into the Duplos and crushing on my youngest, while neighbourhood boys knocked on the door to throw airplanes with my oldest. Stuff like this rarely happens anymore, but it was precious and warm.
Love this Deb. We had a really similar and equally rare neighbourhood experience last weekend which felt like a beautiful throwback to my childhood hanging in other people's backyards.
Our youngest is daycare friends with a kid up the road, and they invited him up for a play for the afternoon (which was respite we desperately needed!). They mentioned that another family was coming over too, so it'd be chaotic fun with 6 kids.
Turns out the other family was our old neighbours from our last house a suburb away! They knew each other from a Rainbow Family playgroup, so I left Sam with _four_ amazing Mum's that I love (who got to/had to sit through a half hour musical variety show the kids made together) 😆
THIS IS GOLD. Thank you so much for this excellent insight, Shane! I will certainly be sharing this one as a recommended read at The Auntie Bulletin next week...

Loved this. So glad we found each other's work!
Same!
The real freeloaders are the capitalist ticks sucking blood of everyone else. I just want to sit on the porch of my cabin and whittle.
Love me some whittling!

So glad it resonates Lisa. Your work is such an inspiring read.
Amazing! And I think we can all agree that the real win here was that you didn't have to watch the variety performance 😂
That was certainly my takeaway!
